Year 6 have been debating our Picture News question- How important is it to understand money?
According to a study conducted by the government, it is estimated that around 5.4 million children in the UK do not have the money skills they will need in adulthood.
In the session, we watched a video of a family, who allowed their children to take over the family budget. The children chose to spend the money on wants rather than needs. This led to them running out of money by the end of the week and not having food to feed the family.
Year 6 did an excellent job at linking their knowledge from the Money Mentors sessions to create their own weekly budgets. The majority of the children said they feel confident at understand money because of the lessons they have been taught by family members and teachers.
