Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)
Our SEND policy and procedures are updated on an annual basis and are available to view on the school website.
Miss Z. Smith is our Special Educational Needs coordinator. She is well supported in her role by experienced and dedicated teachers and teaching assistants. If you have any concerns about the progress your child is making, please ask to speak to your child's class teacher, they may then invite you to meet with Miss Smith.
The school follows the fundamental principles set out in the current Code of Practice on the identification and assessment of Special Educational Needs.
This involves the following:
- The school uses consistent criteria agreed by all members of staff to initiate an assessment of a child.
- The Code of Practice ‘Graduated approach’ is adopted by all Class teachers.
- Data of children’s strengths and developmental points are regularly collected and progress is analysed.
- Our aim is to identify children who may have additional needs early so that effective interventions and support can be in place.
- All children with S.E.N. to have an inclusive, broad and balanced curriculum
- Liaison with other staff, outside agencies and specialists and most importantly parents.
We seek to secure effective assessment and provision by sharing responsibility for the identification, assessment and education of children with Special Educational Needs. Full liaison, co-operation and consultation with parents is always our aim.
