Year One have enjoyed their Science topic ‘Materials’ this half term. We have done lots of practical Scientific investigations to explore different materials and their properties.
We sorted objects according to their materials (glass, plastic, fabric, wood, metal) and used key words to describe them such as hard, soft, opaque, transparent, rigid, bendy. We went on a material hunt around school.
We have also explored floating and sinking and had lots of fun predicting whether an object would float or
sink.
We also tested if materials were absorbent or not. Year One found it very funny trying to wipe up the spilled water with plastic bags. We discovered that the paper towels and tea towels were absorbent and the plastic was not.
